I never order any katsu dish when dining in a Japanese resto. So I can say I wasn't that excited with my first Yabu experience. We've tried the outlets in SM Aura and in Glorietta 5.
I was tempted to try the seafood set but my elves -- who have dined there and rave about it -- ordered the rosu katsudon meals so I had the same. It was good! The pork was very tender, juicy and fried without "that fatty, oily feeling".
Each meal was accompanied with unlimited servings of rice, organic cabbage and fruits. Plus there's the excitement of grinding your own sesame seeds and making your own sauce or dip. Fine way to while away your time while waiting for your katsu.
In my second visit, I ordered a bowl of the Rosu Katsudon with egg topping. Still good but because I eat ever so slowly, the last few katsu pieces were completely sogged than crispy.
While we got promptly seated in SM Aura, there was a long waiting line in Glorietta 5. I suggest you dine off-peak hours to enjoy your Yabu experience. The metro crowd is soooo into this katsu-crazy spree that waiting renders you hungrier.
Or you can check out the view from the top (of SM Aura), maybe even hear mass at its lovely Chapel, then head back for your katsu dinner. Happy eating!
