Lenten Friday TWG Lunch

We can't decide if we're meeting for a late breakfast, an early lunch or midday tea. But yes, we've decided on TWG Tea Salon in Rockwell. We ended up staying a good 4 hours as some came early enough for brunch, and a few late enough for tea.

The salmon eggs benedict is always a sure winner. My friend had that and felt happy and satisfied. It certainly looked much better than the quiche and salad my other friend had, which looked rather tired and dull.

The seabass with pumpkin risotto was perfect on this Lenten Friday. I only wish they added some greens (apart from 3 short asparagus spears) for the price we paid for it. Not too much, just enough to add some color to my lunch plate :-)

We likewised shared a tea set. Always partial to the macarons.... but the scones didn't impress. I did enjoy the cakes though.

This time around, I ordered an iced red tea from Africa while my friends enjoyed their green rea and darjeelings. The red tea is just as I remembered the caffein-free rooboos tea I brought home from my African trip. This adds to my list of favorites now. Bon apetit!

YABU: Best Value For Katsu

3/19/2014

I never order any katsu dish when dining in a Japanese resto. So I can say I wasn't that excited with my first Yabu experience. We've tried the outlets in SM Aura and in Glorietta 5.

Picture

I was tempted to try the seafood set but my elves -- who have dined there and rave about it -- ordered the rosu katsudon meals so I had the same. It was good! The pork was very tender, juicy and fried without "that fatty, oily feeling".

Picture

Each meal was accompanied with unlimited servings of rice, organic cabbage and fruits. Plus there's the excitement of grinding your own sesame seeds and making your own sauce or dip. Fine way to while away your time while waiting for your katsu.

Picture

In my second visit, I ordered a bowl of the Rosu Katsudon with egg topping. Still good but because I eat ever so slowly, the last few katsu pieces were completely sogged than crispy.

Picture

While we got promptly seated in SM Aura, there was a long waiting line in Glorietta 5. I suggest you dine off-peak hours to enjoy your Yabu experience. The metro crowd is soooo into this katsu-crazy spree that waiting renders you hungrier.

Picture

Or you can check out the view from the top (of SM Aura), maybe even hear mass at its lovely Chapel, then head back for your katsu dinner. Happy eating!

Feta Mediterranean Restaurant

It's wedged between Atlanta Bldg and Beverly Place along Annapolis Street. Easy to miss while cruising along a row of restaurants here in busy Greenhills. On soft-opening night, but this dining place offering Turkish, Greek, Mediterranean cuisine had a fairly decent crowd.

The Turkish bread was delivered freshly-baked from its impressive wood oven fire to your table. Goes well with hummus, tsatziki, roasted eggplant dip, and other spreads.

The lentil soup prepped us for our dinners of beef and chicken doner. There was also a very generous serving of beef and rice which can be shared by 2 hungry diners.

Both main dishes paired well with yogurt and tomato sauces. You may also want to consider ordering Ayran, a very Turkish drink made from yogurt. Or stay safe with an apple shake or apple tea :-)

For desserts, we had baklava with pistachio nuts. And more apple tea to dull the very sweet dessert.

Drop in if only to savor the ekmek (Turkish bread), pita or lahmacun. You can't get it any fresher than this. In fact, you can watch it being kneaded, stretched, baked and pulled out of the oven!
